Medical Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities: A medical assistant helps with various medical task. Some of these task may include, but are not limited to, informing a patient about an illness, take a series of physical test, blood test, or other type of medical procedures. They will keep track of appointments or surgery dates. Also many medical assistants will help with keeping the lab clean and safe, and also maintaining any equipment sterile and ready for use.

Salary: $30,000- $35,000

Education: Laboratory and classroom training is needed, preferably a Bachelor's or Associate's degree. Although, another way to becoming a medical assistant is, coming straight out of highschool, you are taken under the wing of another doctor.

Demand: The demand for this job is good. Around 160,000 jobs are expected to become available from the year 2012 to 2022.

Reflection: I would not want to be a medical assistant because the job description does not seem interesting to me. If i do enter a field i would rather be the one giving orders, in this case the doctor, than be the one taking orders, in this case the medical assistant. Also, the medical field is not of interest to me, i would much rather enter a field of engineering or so.

Soil Toxicity I choose the topic because it is something i am knowledgeable and because the information is still fresh in my mind. The soil around our community has been infected by various toxins, one of these mainly being lead. Lead is naturally found within our soil along with other metals such as Zinc and Arsenic. Lead is measured in a unit known as parts per million. Parts per million, or ppm for short, is a conversion for milligram per  cubic meter. The normal range for lead is currently at about 15-40 parts per million according to the EPA. After a experiment was performed we realized that the homes within our community have around 115 parts per million of soil, which is above the american average. According to the EPA, once lead reaches 400 ppm then it becomes a danger to us and once it reaches 1200 ppm then the area needs to be closed off as it become a serious health hazard.
