“My basic principle is that you don't make decisions because they are easy; you don’t make them because they are cheap; you don’t make them because they’re popular; you make them because they’re right.”

This quote is giving us guidance and direction. It is telling us to always choose the right no matter what the situation is. You should not have to think twice if you are making a good decision. If the decision is truly good, you will naturally choose it and it will feel right. You cannot do wrong and feel good. It is impossible, as Ezra Taft Benson once told us. Hesburgh is telling us that good should always be chosen. It sometimes may not be the most popular decision, but no matter what it should be chosen above everything else. An example of this quote can be seen at a party. If a person is offered drugs and he notices everyone else is doing them, he may be tempted but overall he would choose to do good and repel the drugs. IT is the unpopular opinion, but it is what is right.
