"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball player"
~Coach John Wooden

This quote has a lot of meaning behind it. It saying that your character as a person matter more than anything else. Who you are, how you turn it has a bigger impact than anything else. Here Wooden was talking to his basketball players and he was teaching them this quote. What he meant to them is that winning isn't everything. the true winners are those who show character during the game.  By being good and choosing the right you will win as a person. You will win the hearts, trust, and friendship of those individuals around you. Sure you may not get the title but you'll get something much better than that. You will be granted with long life relationships. Also you will be self aware of what you did and accomplish. By being self aware you will make yourself feel good and you will also make those around you feel better. This can include your teammates coach friends or family. An example of this is if one of your teammates is taking drugs. He is the best player and without him you will lose the game. But you tell the coach and show you have character. You will end up losing the game but you will show you are a true person.
